Advice That Can Help You Get Better At Organic Gardening

There are literally thousands of gardening books and websites out there. Books are available to help you grow orchids and other plants that have special requirements. Luckily, everything you need to help you in your garden is right in this article. This article contains important information that will get you ready to begin planting your garden.

Choose higher yield plant varieties. A disease-resistant hybrid plant can be a good option to consider over a more traditional variety due to its tendency to produce higher yields.

Choose perennials that are not vulnerable to attack by slugs. These creatures can wreak havoc on a garden in a short time. These pests normally go after plants with thin little leaves and plants that have yet to fully mature. There are perennials that slugs do not want to eat, the ones that they hate have hairy leaves, or are unappealing to their taste. Some of examples of these are achillea, heuchera, campanula, helleborus, and euphorbia.

There are home solutions available to combat the powdery mildew you may find on your plants. All you need to do is mix baking soda with a tiny bit of liquid soap in with some water. Once a week, spray this solution on your plants and your mildew should disappear in no time. Baking soda treats the mildew effectively and gently and it won’t damage your plants.

If you want your garden to blossom with flowers throughout the spring and summer, plant some bulbs in it. Bulbs will grow every year and are easier to take care of than seeds. Different types of bulbs bloom at different times, so if you choose appropriately, you can have blooms from early spring to late summer.

Pre-soak your seeds through the night in a dark area. Put a few seeds in a small container and fill it near to the top with water. The water will hydrate the sends, giving them a head start once you plant them. This will also give your seeds a much better chance to survive and mature.

Plant a little catnip or wheatgrass in the area surrounding the plants that your cat is devouring. Alternatively, you can try putting mothballs, citrus peel or anything else with an odor that cats find distasteful in the soil surrounding the plants.

Vegetable plants should be planted where they can benefit from a minimum of six hours of sunlight every day. This allows the vegetables to grow quickly and healthily. Some flowers have the same requirement for growth.

If your plants do not grown very tall, try buying some knee pads used for gardening. Kneeling on the ground as you garden will eventually cause serious discomfort for your knees. Investing in a comfortable pair of knee pads made specifically for gardening can really reduce the pain you may feel from the pressure of being on your knees for extended periods.
