Put down sod correctly. Before laying the sod, the soil must be prepared. Pull any weeds and break up any clods of soil. Compact the soil gently but firmly to be certain that it is indeed flat. Gently sprinkle water on the soil until you are certain that it is thoroughly moistened. Sod should be placed in rows that are staggered, where the joints connect to offset each other. The sod should form a flat and firm surface. Fill in gaps with soil. Keep the sod moist and avoid walking on it until it is well-rooted, usually two to three weeks.

Using a shovel in clay soil is a lot of work, not only is the clay hard, but it will stick to the shovel and make it twice as hard to handle. Make your shoveling job easier by lightly coating a shovel with a layer of wax, then buffing the surface. Either car wax or floor wax will work just fine. This will keep the soil from sticking, and prevent rusting of the tool.

Choose the varieties of plants that will produce a higher yield. Normally, hybrid plants that are disease-resistant and cold-tolerant have a greater yield than traditional varieties.

Try planting your plants in flower pots first, then transferring them to your garden once they have had a bit of time to grow. This will help the plants make it to full growth. It also lets you have tighter control over the planting periods in your garden. You can plant the seedlings once you have removed the old plants.

Brighten your garden with biennials and annuals. These biennials and annuals are fast-growing, and they allow you to brighten up your flower bed with a change for each season. Sunny areas in the middle of shrubs and perennials can be filled in nicely with these plants. Notable biennials and annuals include marigold, sunflowers, hollyhock, petunia, and cosmos.

There’s no need for chemical intervention if you discover powdery mildew on leaves. Plain water with a bit of liquid soap and baking soda will do the trick. Spray this onto your plants about once per week or until it subsides. Do not worry about your plants; the baking soda cannot harm them.

Plants require a good amount of CO2 in order to grow to their maximum height. Most plants grow better in higher levels of CO2. A greenhouse will provide the best method of providing enough CO2 for your plants. It’s best to keep CO2 levels high for the best growth of your plants.
