Become An Organic Gardening Master By Using These Hints

For a healthy lush garden, you will need more than a green thumb. You may believe that your neighbor is employing a secret strategy for a perfect garden. Planting a garden does not have to be an elaborate effort of backbreaking work. All it requires is knowledge to take proper care of plants. You can get started on your gardening adventure by reading the advice in this informative article.

The first thing you can do to ward off garden pests is to ensure you are using healthy soil in your garden. Healthy soil equals healthy plants and healthy plants can fight off diseases with ease. If you start with balanced soil, your garden will produce healthy plants with the best yield. Refrain from using chemicals since these will increase the salt content of the soil.

Use annuals and biennials to enliven your flower beds. Using a variety of flowers allows your flower garden to have a different look each season. If there are gaps between the perennials and shrubs you have planted in a sunlit area, try filling those gaps with annuals and biennials. Some of these that you might consider are petunias, marigolds and sunflowers. If those are not flowers you like, you can also try cosmos, holyhocks or rudbeckias.

Before you plant anything in your garden, have the soil checked. A soil analysis is inexpensive and can be used to figure out which nutrients should be added to provide a healthy garden environment. A lot of cooperative extension offices can provide this service to you and it is worth knowing what you need to do in order to avoid ruining your plants.

Divide irises. Take clumps that have become overgrown and divvy them up into separate plants. Lift the dead bulbous irises. The bulbs often divide in your hand with no intervention on your part, and when you replant them, they will usually flower the following year. Use a knife to carefully divide rhizomes. Cut rhizomes from around the outside then throw away the remaining center. Be sure to retain a sturdy offshoot on every piece that you intend to plant. Replant the new shoots right away.

So, you can see that these suggestions are rather simple and easy to follow. You just need a bit of instruction on what to do, then the time to apply what you have learned. Pay close attention to your plants as you try each method to see how they respond. If one method does not deliver good results, try the next one. Have patience, and before you know it, your neighbors will be jealous of your garden.
