Split up irises. Increase your iris stocks by dividing your overgrown clumps. After foliage is no longer alive, remove the flowers with bulbs. If you split the bulbs that you pull up, and replant them, they will bloom the following year. Use a knife to carefully divide rhizomes. Cut several new pieces out of the outside and get rid of the old center. Each piece should retain a minimum of one sturdy offshoot capable of spurting new growth. Replant your cuttings immediately for the best results.

Learn the appropriate time to pick different vegetables. Each variety needs a slightly different amount of growing time to produce the most flavorful vegetable. For instance, zucchini and baby peas have the best taste when you pick them early. At the opposite end of the spectrum, tomatoes are at their best when mature.
