Easy And Fast Organic Gardening Tips For You

There’s a lot more to gardening than most people realize. For instance, you have to know certain things like pH balance in soil or things that can fend off bugs naturally when you get into gardening. It can sometimes seem a bit difficult to grow organically for a novice. Read on to find some tips to make gardening in a clean, organic fashion a little easier and more fun to do!

If you work with clay soil, you have probably found using a shovel very frustrating and exhausting. Rub a thin layer of floor or car wax over the surface of the shovel, and then buff the surface using a clean cloth. This will make shoveling in clay soil easier. The clay won’t stick to it, and the end will not rust as an added bonus.

Make garden tools do double duty as handy makeshift rulers. You can convert any large handle tool, such as a hoe, shovel, or rake into a measuring tool. Lay the handles upon the floor and use a tape measure along side of them. Have a marker handy, and mark the distance with it. Now when you go to work in the garden, you will have a ruler that is large at your fingertips!

Check the soil before you plant anything in your garden. There are soil testing services that can analyze a garden’s soil content for a small charge. With those results, it’s then possible to refine and supplement the soil to make it as fertile as possible. A lot of extension offices will offer this service and it is worth it so you know what your soil needs.

When you are mowing your lawn do not cut it too closely to the dirt. Keeping grass with a little more height makes it healthier. This allows the roots to grow more deeply and makes the blades of grass more resistant to becoming dry and discolored. Leaving the grass short makes it more prone to drying out, which leaves your lawn look really brown and yucky.

Sometimes the soil you want to use for your garden has a high alkaline content. Combine coffee grounds with the soil to reduce this. The coffee grounds provide a cheap way to re-supply needed acid to the dirt. When you use them, you will start to notice that your vegetables are tastier and more vibrant in color.

Now, you shouldn’t get your hopes up and believe that a few tips are going to turn you into an instant professional gardener. However, these tips are a great starting point if you do plan to grow organically. As you implement these tips and hone your skills, you’ll be a professional green-thumb-holder in no time.
