How To Easily Turn Your Garden Organic

Many people think gardening is hard to accomplish, but that is not true if you know what you are doing. With the right knowledge, anyone can be a great gardener. This article contain some creative gardening tips that will turn you into a expert horticulturist in no time at all.

Put down sod correctly. Start by preparing your soil with care. Remove the weeds, then break up the soil into fine tilth. Compact the soil lightly and firmly, and be sure to create a flat surface. The soil should always receive adequate moisture. Lay the sod in straight rows, ensuring the seams meet perfectly. Make sure the sod is firmly placed to ensure a surface that is sufficiently flat and even. Also, make sure to use soil to fill the areas where there are gaps in the sod. You will have to water the sod every day for 2 weeks, and then it should be firmly rooted to the ground, and able to be walked on.

Turn your tool handles into convenient rulers. Tools with substantial handles, like rakes, hoes and large shovels are great for taking measurements. Put the handles down and measure them with a measuring tape. Label the distances onto them using a permanent marker pen. Now, the next time you do work in the garden, you’ll actually have a ruler at your fingertips.

Having healthy soil in your garden will help your plants avoid insect pests. If you have healthy looking plants, they are stronger and more resistant to diseases and bugs. To give your garden the best chance of yielding the healthiest plants, start with a high-quality soil that has fewer chemicals which over time will accumulate salts.

Do a soil analysis prior to planting. Have a soil report done. It is cost effective and you can make necessary adjustments, based on the report, to your soil so it is correctly enriched to encourage plant growth. A lot of extension offices will offer this service and it is worth it so you know what your soil needs.

Take the time to remove weeds. Weeds steal nutrients from plants, robbing a garden of its potential harvest. White vinegar is one option you can use in your routine weed removal. It can kill weeds. Use a spray bottle full of white vinegar and you won’t have to use your hands.

Grow wheat or cat grass around the plants your cat likes nibbling. Offensive smells also work to repel cats and other pesky animals from eating your plants. Try putting mothballs, citrus peels, garlic and other pungent items on the topsoil.

As previously mentioned, becoming a skilled gardener is not difficult as long as you know what to do. With the right gardening advice, like the advice featured in the tips above, you can start creating landscape masterpieces in your own back yard.
