There are so many natural alternatives available to you if you want to turn your garden organic. All you need to do is find out what they are, and then use them.
Plant some perennials in your garden that repel slugs. Snails and slugs can quickly wreak havoc on a garden. Young plants with smooth and tender leaves are their favorite. Certain perennials are unappetizing to slugs and snails, especially those with tough, hairy leaves or an unappetizing taste. Several good choices include heuchera, campanula, achillea, and euphorbia.
Use proper soil for the best results. Depending on the type of plants you desire in your garden, your natural soil may or may not be appropriate. You can make an artificial area that uses a single kind of soil.
For flowers throughout the spring and the summer, be sure to plant some bulbs. A hardy perennial addition to your garden, bulbs will continue to delight every year. The types of bulbs you use will determine the time of year your flowers will bloom, giving you the pleasure of blooms from spring to summer, if you plant them right.
Pre-soak seeds overnight in a dark place. You then want to place a small amount of seeds in a container that’s smaller and then fill it up with water to the top. When you do this, you hydrate your seeds and they can start growing. This way, the seeds will have a much better shot at survival once they are planted.
Plant things that will give you color for the fall. That doesn’t have to be it though. The autumn season can be one of the best growing seasons and is certainly the most colorful. Maple trees produce yellow and red leaves, just like Beech and Dogwood trees. Cotoneaster, barberry and hydrangea can provide vibrant color if you are considering shrubs for your garden.
It’s simple to lay a new perennial bed. All you need to do is use a garden spade to slice under the turf, flip it over, then spread wood chips over the area about three to four inches deep. Let the area have about two weeks, then dig it and plan the new perennials.
You will garden more efficiently if you keep your tools close by. You can do this by using a bucket, or you can wear rugged pants or a gardening apron that has several pockets. Keep common tools such as your gloves or your pruning shears within reach so that you can quickly and easily maintain your garden whenever you need to.
Coffee grounds are good for your soil. Coffee grounds have a lot of nutrients that plants can use. Generally, nitrogen is the limiting nutrient with any plant and having a good nitrogen source either by coffee grounds, compost, or even diluted urea, will make your plants bloom faster and grow taller.
When it is time to gather your produce, you should use an older laundry basket. Most laundry baskets are designed with a multitude of holes. This makes them a perfect strainer for washing your vegetables. The produce can be rinsed off as it sits in the laundry basket, and extra water will drain out through the sides.
Many people try to garden, but if you do not know what you are doing, you will not see the best results. Use what you have learned to make your garden grow!
