Shoveling clay is very difficult and lots of work because the clay is hard and sticks to the shovel, making it tough to handle. There’s no need for chemical intervention if you discover powdery mildew on leaves. Mix a bit of liquid soap and some baking soda into water. Then, spray this mixture onto all of your infected plants once each week till the mildew is gone. Baking soda will effectively remove the mildew without damaging your plants.

If you have a vegetable garden, it is crucial they are kept in a spot with at least six hours of sun each day. Pretty much any vegetable you plant in your garden requires sunshine for this duration. It allows them to grow in the proper manner and also much faster. Some flowers also have the same needs.

If you have many low-growing plants in your garden, get yourself a pair of gardening knee pads. If you spend a large portion of your gardening session on your knees, it could create pain over time. Purchase a great pair of knee pads; they will provide a cushion for your knees while making gardening more comfortable.

If you want an organic way to weed your garden, try “boiling” them. A boiling pot of water is one the best and safest herbicides you can find. Just pour boiling water directly on top of the weeds cautiously to avoid damaging your plants. If you pour the water near your plants, it will kill the roots.

Invest in a kneeling stool, and a wheelbarrow to work in the garden. Using a large portion of your time near or on the ground working on your garden puts a huge strain on your knees; therefore, having a portable, lightweight garden stool will greatly assist you in making gardening easier on them. Also, gardening can involve a lot of heavy lifting and moving items, therefore a robust wheelbarrow can make that aspect much easier.

The prevent your dog from trampling through your garden, spray some old aftershave, perfume or other heavily scented things on the grass around your plants. This will help mask the scents that attract your dog, and will make your garden a less interesting place for your pet to be.

Try to avoid direct sun exposure when you are gardening during the day; wear protective clothing. Pair sunglasses with wide-brimmed hats and a dab of sunblock. If you shield your skin from the sun correctly, your risk of sunburn and cancers will go down.

In order to bring in good insects to your garden, you need to plant heather. Heather is desirable to bees; when heather emerges in early spring, it can be a source of nectar. Beds of heather are largely undisturbed and make a perfect living space for spiders, beetles and a variety of other beneficial tenants. With this in mind make sure you wear some gloves when you are working with the heather.

If you want a sustainable garden, leave part of it undisturbed as a home for the wildlife in the area. You will find that many of the supporting cast of insects and birds that aid in plant production and pollination will be present on your land and actually help your developed gardens to produce better.

When you sow seeds in your garden, try not to rush the process. Water the soil first. Lay out your seeds, and make sure that they will have enough room to grow. Multiply the size of each seed by three and bury the seed that deep. Some seeds require light for growing and must not be buried.
