All About Gardening

Organic Gardening Has Never Been This Easy!

A garden is much more than just ‘landscaping’. For some people, gardening is more than a hobby. It is something someone can do to add tranquility and peace to his or her house, as well as a way to appreciate life itself. When you excel at gardening, these effects can prove very positive within you life.

Start your plants in some pots and plant its seedlings in the garden. Your plants will have a better chance of getting big and healthy! In addition, it lets you tighten the time in between plantings. Using this method, you can remove the mature plants, then put the seedlings in their places.

Pre-soak your seeds to keep them healthy. Put some seeds (a small amount) in a container that isn’t too large for the plant you’ll be growing. Fill that container with water, almost to the top. This will allow seeds to be watered and they will get a kick start when growing. This gives the seeds a better chance of flourishing.

If you’re growing veggies in the garden, they need to be in a spot that lets them get about six hours of sun daily. Many of the vegetables need a lot of sun, so they can grow right and at a faster pace. Some flowers are especially sun-loving as well.

Try to ensure your plants are dry and have enough air, daily! Parasites are attracted to the moisture on plants. Fungus is a common problem when plants are allowed to remain damp. There are many effective fungicide products that will prevent fungi growth and clear up any existing problems as well.

Many people think the best green gardens start from seeds, rather than plants. The environmentally conscious way to start a new garden is to start with seeds. Many nurseries use plastic growing pots that are very seldom recycled. Try buying from organic nurseries and farms so your garden is not using anti-environmental products.

You can keep pests away from your garden by using other plants or natural materials. Slugs are repelled by bordering your vegetable garden with either onions or marigolds. You can also prevent insect pests by using wood ash like mulch around your trees and shrubs. Natural remedies, like the ones listed, will help reduce the need and usage of harsh chemical pesticides.

Invest in a kneeling stool, and a wheelbarrow to work in the garden. Gardening can be very tough on your knees, so a kneeling stool that is ergonomic and lightweight can make things much more comfortable and enjoyable. Gardening involves moving heavy objects and dirt, so a wheelbarrow makes for a wise investment.

Make sure your pesticides are focused on only what you’re trying to kill. These pesticides will kill every type of pest in your garden, including beneficial bugs that eat garden pests. The beneficial insects, which kill the pests, are much more sensitive to pesticides than the pests. Using them will reduce your population of good bugs, and increase the bad. As a result, gardeners often have to resort to using more toxic pesticides to get rid of garden pests.

Choose plants that will provide color in autumn. That doesn’t have to be way it is though! Fall foliage provides for the most colorful season of the year. Maple trees, Dogwood, and Beech trees exist in lots of Fall colors that range from deep crimson to yellow. When choosing shrubs, think about cotoneaster, hydrangea or barberry.

The sun can cause irreparable skin damage; therefore, it is essential to dress accordingly when gardening. Sunglasses, a nice shady hat, and sunscreen are very helpful. Wearing sun protection is important to help ward off the unnecessary pain of sunburn, and it will help lessen your skin cancer risk, too.

Apply these tips to make your garden a beautiful oasis. You’ll be so happy to see your beautiful plants afterward. Gardening is something that can change your life, if only you will let it, so get to it.
