When the fall season approaches, you must prepare to plant your favorite fall veggies and other edibles. Rather than putting standard clay vessels into use when planting crops of lettuce and kale, think about using pumpkins instead. Clean out the pumpkin just like you would if you were making a jack o’lantern. Spray Wilt-Pruf inside the pumpkin and along its edges so that the pumpkin won’t rot. Once you’ve done this, you can plant.

Instead of leaving clumps of irises intact, divide them so that your flowers can grow in a more healthy manner. Try increasing your stock by dividing your overgrown clumps of plants. When you see the foliage is definitely dead, lift up the bulbous irises. You will be able to split the bulb easily and replant it to get more flowers next year. If you have a rhizome you will need to split it with a knife. You can split the Rhizomes production by cutting off thin portions from the exterior and discarding the remaining insides. Each piece should retain a minimum of one sturdy offshoot capable of spurting new growth. You also need to make sure that you replant the new pieces as soon as possible.

Take the time to spread around five centimeters of organic mulch near your vegetable plants. The soil around plants can stay damper through the use of mulch. It also prevents weed growth. This will save you time, money, and effort in your lovely garden.
