The Greener Gardener: Best Gardening Tips And Ideas

Organic gardening is an interesting hobby and helps you get in touch with nature. It is an enjoyable way to grow your own nutritious foods that are free of pesticides and other harsh chemicals. However, organic gardening can seem quite daunting, especially if you do not possess the proverbial green thumb. Read the following article and you will gain great knowledge you can use while you garden organically.

When choosing plants, pick those that produce a high yield. Normally, hybrid plants that are disease-resistant and cold-tolerant have a greater yield than traditional varieties.

If powdery mildew appears on your plants, don’t purchase expensive chemical solutions. Mix a little liquid soap and baking soda in water. You then want to spray this mixture on your plants one time a week until you notice the mildew disappear. This method is not going to cause any damages to your plants and the mildew will go away slowly.

Save some plants in the winter by bringing them indoors. Find out which plants will be able to thrive despite the transplanting and different indoor conditions. Carefully dig around the rootball and replant in an appropriate pot.

Plant bulbs if you want spring and summer flowers. Not only are bulbs hearty and easy to grow, but they’ll continue to grow as time goes on. Different types of bulbs bloom at different times, so if you choose appropriately, you can have blooms from early spring to late summer.

There are grass varieties, such as wheat grass or catnip, that will give your feline something to nibble on besides your garden. You may also place something offensively smelly atop the soil, like citrus peel or mothballs.

If you are considering planting a garden take the time to plan it out. Use your seed packages to make fun markers that will remind you where each type of plant is growing. The plan will also help you keep track of your more diminutive plants and smaller groups that could otherwise become lost among a sea of larger plantings.

Boiling away unwanted weeds is an odd, but productive method used in many gardens. A boiling pot of water is one the best and safest herbicides you can find. One simple layer across the weeds with a pot of boiling water will take care of the problem, but you have to remember the same applies to your plants, as well. The extreme heat of the water will cause damage to the weeds’ roots, which will stop them from growing any more.

Being a success at organic gardening requires patience, effort and a willingness to learn. This skill utilizes a simple patch of ground to produce healthy, delicious, natural foods. All it takes is a little studying and practice to become a successful organic gardener.
