Tips That Will Help You With Organic Gardening

Make sure you take care of your garden the best you can. That is why wise organic gardening tips are important. A good understanding of organic gardening is needed to grow healthy plants. Use the following tips to create a flourishing and very rewarding organic garden.

Plant a variety of annuals, biennials and perennials to keep your flower beds bright. These types of flowers grow at high speed, which gives you more flexibility in changing the look of your flower beds as the seasons change. They are very useful for filling in the gaps between perennials and shrubs in a sunny area. Some of these that you might consider are petunias, marigolds and sunflowers. If those are not flowers you like, you can also try cosmos, holyhocks or rudbeckias.

To get the best results, you must use the right soil. You should choose your soil depending on the plants that you are going to plant. You can make an artificial area that uses a single kind of soil.

If you want your garden full of flowers spring through summer, plant bulbs. Bulbs will grow every year and are easier to take care of than seeds. Specific types of bulbs usually bloom at specific times of the season, so if you make appropriate selections, you can be rewarded with blooms from the early part of spring to the later part of summer.

Irises should be divided. If you split up clumps of them, you will eventually have more of this flower. When the foliage has died off, it is time to harvest the iris bulbs. The iris bulbs should easily split apart in your hand. Once you replant them, they will have a good flower show the following year. You can divide rhizomes with a knife. Cut several new pieces out of the outside and get rid of the old center. Divide your pieces carefully; they should each have one good quality offshoot apiece. Replant each one immediately.

Fertilize your garden regularly. Choose commercial compost instead of homegrown manure to keep toxins out of your plants. There are a lot of different ways to fertilize plants; make sure you actually take the time to do it.

Purchase a wheelbarrow, and a kneeling stool to use in your garden. It’s rough on your knees to spend lots of time on the ground kneeling or squatting. That’s why it’s a good idea to have a portable, lightweight garden stool on hand. It is also normal to move heavy objects and dirt around the garden, so a wheelbarrow is something you should have.

Plan your garden, and plant with fall colors in mind. This does not have to be so. The fall season is probably the most colorful of the year in terms of foliage. Many trees display a range of the vivid colors of fall, from bright yellow to rich crimson, including maple, beech, and dogwood. When selecting shrubs that will be colorful during the fall, consider hydrangea, barberry, or cotoneaster.

Take care of your knees when you’re gardening. Most people can’t bend for long periods while standing. You can kneel instead to help keep your back relaxed while tending to your plants. Place a cushioning kneeling pad on the ground or wear knee pads to make kneeling more comfortable.

Since you’ve reached the end of this article, you can see now that organic gardening makes a huge difference in the taste and healthiness of the product. If you are willing to put in the effort, you will enjoy a wonderful harvest from your own garden.
